Yes or no tarot

Yes or no tarot cards list

First, ask your question. Then you’ll pick a card.

Every tarot card has a yes or no answer, and here they all are: the 22 Major Arcana and the 56 Minor Arcana, each with its short verdict and a page explaining why. Use it as a cheat sheet when a card turns up in a one-card pull, or to check a card you keep seeing.

The deck leans hopeful on purpose. Of the 78, 56 lean yes, 8 lean no, 10 say not yet and 4 say maybe. Those last two are real answers, not fence-sitting: a card like the Hermit isn't refusing you, it's asking you to wait.

Major Arcana yes or no

The 22 big cards. Most lean yes; the Devil and the Tower are the clear noes, and the Hermit, Hanged Man and Moon ask you to wait.

Wands yes or no

Fire: energy, drive, action. Almost all yes — the Five of Wands is the one that says no, and the Ten says yes at a cost.

Cups yes or no

Water: feelings and relationships. The Four, Five and Seven are the hesitant ones; the Eight of Cups says yes to leaving and no to staying.

Swords yes or no

Air: thought and conflict. The suit with the most noes and not-yets — the Five, Seven, Eight and Ten say no; the Two, Three, Four and Nine say not yet.

Pentacles yes or no

Earth: work, money, the body. Steady yeses, mostly on a timeline — the Five says not yet and the Four says it depends on whether you're keeping or changing.

Reversed cards in a yes or no reading

Readers disagree about reversals more than about anything else, so here is the simplest honest rule: a reversed card keeps its answer and loses its certainty. A reversed Sun is still a yes, but a yes with something in the way. A reversed Tower is still a no, but the collapse is slower or already happened. A reversed Hermit is a not yet that's nearly over.

The pull on this site draws cards upright, so the verdict you see is the card's plain answer. If you read with a physical deck and a card falls reversed, read its page here, then soften the verdict one step.

Questions people ask

Which tarot cards mean yes?
56 of the 78 cards lean yes in this deck. The clearest are the Sun, the World, the Star, the Lovers, the Ace and Six of Wands, the Two and Ten of Cups, and the Ace, Nine and Ten of Pentacles.
Which tarot cards mean no?
8 cards lean no: the Devil, the Tower, the Five of Wands, the Four of Cups, and the Five, Seven, Eight and Ten of Swords. A further 10 say not yet — the Hermit, the Hanged Man, the Moon, the Five and Seven of Cups, the Two, Three, Four and Nine of Swords, and the Five of Pentacles.
Which tarot cards are a maybe?
Four cards genuinely point both ways: the High Priestess (maybe, leaning yes), Death (no to staying the same, yes to change), the Eight of Cups (yes to leaving, no to staying) and the Four of Pentacles (yes for keeping, no for changing).
Is Death a yes or no card?
Both, which is why it's listed as a maybe. Death says no to things continuing as they are and yes to the change that follows. Ask 'will this stay the same?' and it's a no; ask 'should I let this go?' and it's a yes.
How do reversed tarot cards work in a yes or no reading?
A reversal usually weakens or delays the upright answer rather than flipping it. A reversed yes becomes 'yes, but blocked or slower'; a reversed no often softens to 'the obstacle is lifting'; a reversed not yet means the wait is nearly over. This pull draws upright cards, so the answer you see is the card's plain one.
Is this list the same as other yes or no tarot lists?
Broadly — the Sun is a yes everywhere and the Tower is a no everywhere. Lists differ on the hesitant cards (the Hermit, the Moon, the Hanged Man), which some readers call no and we call not yet, because that's the truer reading of a card about waiting.
