Three real cards, written for
AI Tarot Reading
An AI tarot reading on Moonlit starts with your hands, not a prompt. You draw three cards from the full deck, choose a focus, and an AI language model writes the reading for those exact cards. This page explains how, step by step, and what it will not do.
Start a readingWhat an AI tarot card reading is on Moonlit
Most pages that offer an AI tarot card reading hand you three cards a program picked and a paragraph that could have gone with any of them. Moonlit works the other way round. The 78-card deck fans out, you take three cards by touch, and only then does any writing begin. The cards are chosen by you. The words are written for them.
That order matters more than it sounds. If The Tower lands in your Present, the reading has to reckon with The Tower in your Present, in the focus you chose. It cannot soften it into a different card. And because the three positions are Past, Present and Becoming, the reading has a shape: what you walked in with, what is true now, and what is already forming if the present continues.
Moonlit is a tarot reading app in the sense that it does one thing well on a phone, but there is nothing to download and no account. It runs in the browser and remembers your last reading there.
How the reading is written
Here is the whole sequence, in the order it actually happens. Nothing is hidden in it, which is the point of writing it down.
You draw three cards and choose a focus
The full 78-card deck fans out on your screen. You slide through it and take three cards by touch, in the order they come. They land as Past, Present and Becoming. Then a short context sheet asks what the reading is for: Love, Career, Money, Relationships, Personal Growth or General.
An instant reading appears
Before anything reaches a model, Moonlit composes a first reading from each card's own written meaning and the position it landed in. It needs no network, so there is always a reading on the page, even when the connection is poor or the model is slow.
A live reading is written for your cards
An AI language model (through OpenAI's API) writes the fuller reading from your three cards, their positions, your focus, the part of day you drew in, and, if you have read here before, a one-line note of your last focus and closing card. It returns a headline, an opening, a narrative, psychological and spiritual angles, three reflection questions, one action and one affirmation.
The opening is shown to everyone
The headline, the opening line, your three cards and the first paragraph are included for every reading. The rest opens with a ₹49 unlock for that one reading, or with the ₹199 pack.
The instant reading is not a placeholder. Each card’s meaning in it was written for that card, the same copy you will find on its own page, so Two of Cups in your Becoming says the same thing in both places. The live reading builds on it in longer, more personal sentences, and the model is told plainly that tarot is a mirror, not fortune-telling.
AI tarot chat: ask about your reading
With the ₹199 pack you can ask five follow-up questions about your readings, in a chat box that opens under the affirmation once the reading has finished. Each answer is written with your reading’s own text and your earlier questions, so the chat remembers your cards without you repeating them. Ask “what should I do next” and it answers from your Present card, not from a general idea of what people should do next.
The five questions are counted across the whole pack, so you can spend them all on one reading or spread them over several. When they are used up, a ₹49 top-up adds five more. It is a chat about your reading, not a chat about anything, and it stays with the cards.
Online tarot card reading with your own question
Without the pack, the reading is written from your cards and your focus. With it, the context sheet gains a line where you can type what is actually on your mind, in your own words, before the reading is written. “Whether to take the Pune offer” reads very differently from “Career”, and the model is asked to treat your note as the heart of the question and speak to your real situation.
Your note is cleaned before it reaches the model: spacing is collapsed, very long notes are trimmed to around 240 characters at a word boundary, and it travels as context only, with instructions that it is never to be obeyed as a command. If you are not sure how to phrase one, the guide to tarot reading questions to ask has real examples.
What the AI does not do
It does not predict. The model is instructed never to promise an event, name an outcome as certain, or treat the time of day or the season as a sign. It does not give medical, legal or financial advice, and it does not diagnose. It does not claim to know another person’s feelings: a reading about someone else reads what you are sensing and hoping, which is the honest part of the question anyway.
It has no memory beyond what your own browser keeps, and there is no account to attach one to. The heavier cards, Death, Three of Swords, Ten of Swords, are framed by what they ask you to grow toward, and the model is told not to force a cheerful ending when the spread is genuinely ambiguous. If the reading cannot be written at all, the instant reading stays on the page and nothing is charged.
AI tarot reader vs a human reader
An AI tarot reader is consistent. It reads the same card the same careful way at 2 a.m. as at noon, it has no bad days, a full reading is ₹49, and no one is listening while you ask. A good human reader brings what it cannot: intuition about you in the room, the pause before a card, a conversation that follows your face rather than your text.
Moonlit’s reading is a mirror, and it works best used like one. Draw when something has changed, read the Present card slowly, and answer the three reflection questions honestly. For a love question start with the love tarot reading, for work with the career tarot reading. The yes or no tarot pull is different: it is not AI-written at all. Each of the 78 cards carries its own written answer, and the card you pick turns and gives it. All 78 meanings are at card meanings.
Is an AI tarot reading accurate?
Accurate to your cards and your focus, yes, because that is all it is written from. Accurate as a forecast, no, and it does not try to be. The fairer question is whether it says something true about where you stand, and you can judge that from the first paragraph, which is included. There is a longer answer in are tarot readings accurate.
Questions about AI tarot readings
Which AI writes the reading?
An AI language model, through OpenAI's API. Moonlit sends it your three cards, their positions, your focus, the time of day and, if you have one, a one-line summary of your previous reading. It writes the reading from those. No person writes or reviews it.
Are my cards random?
You choose them. The deck is shuffled and fanned across the screen, and the three you touch are the three you get, in that order. Nothing is generated for you and nothing is weighted towards a cheerful result. The reading is written for the cards you actually picked.
Is my question stored?
Your reading and chat thread stay in your browser, and Moonlit has no accounts, so there is no profile for them to join. A question you type with the pack is tidied and sent to the model once, as context for writing the reading. The full text of a locked reading is held on Moonlit's server for a day so a purchase can open it, then it expires.
Can I use it without paying?
The opening of every reading is included: the headline, the opening line, your three cards and the first paragraph. The full reading is ₹49 on its own, or part of the ₹199 pack, which covers five more readings, five chat questions, your own typed question, a three-line summary and a PDF.
Is it an app?
It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install from a store and no sign-up. If you want it on your phone like an app, use your browser's Add to Home Screen option and it opens full-screen from there.
Does the AI remember my earlier readings?
Only lightly. Your browser keeps your last reading, and when you return the model is told your previous focus, your closing card and roughly how long ago it was, so the new reading can notice what has shifted. It is not given the old reading's text.
Is an AI tarot reading accurate?
It is accurate to your cards and your focus, which is what it is written from. It is not a forecast, and it says so in how it is written: it describes patterns, choices and what each card asks of you, never fixed outcomes. The useful test is whether it names something true about where you are.
Draw three cards and see for yourself
The opening of the reading is included. Take three cards, choose a focus, and read the first paragraph before deciding whether to open the rest.
